We are lucky enough to be surrounded by wonderful trees here at Annaghmore.  They are a constant source of inspiration every day and in every season.  Michael's studio is in the stable yard, where he resides most of the time with his faithful studio assistant Oliver (chocolate Lab!).   So, come and join us as we  explore a wide variety of charcoal drawing techniques, using photographs of Sligo landscapes as our source material. Classes are designed to encourage and support the act of drawing and seeing in charcoal, in an informal and easy-going environment.

All levels from beginners to more advanced are welcome.

Day 1:

Artists talk / upside down drawing / blind contour drawing / drawing the landscape / the thumbnail sketch / composition / lines of perspective / working out of black.

Day 2:

Drawing the landscape / establishing composition / demystifying subject matter - scaling up.

Day 3:

Portraiture / establishing the features of the face using a simple grid system / positive and negative space / line and contour / shadow and tone.
